Some of these white blood cells act as scavengers by engulfing foreign particles and destroying. Others produce antibodies or destroy dead cells. These blood cells are normally produced in the bone marrow.

The main reason of less WBC count could be the failure of bone marrow that can be caused due to infection, tumor, fibrosis or any such disease or disorder. There could be a low blood count because of presence of cytotoxic substance. WBC count could also be affected because of collagen-vascular diseases, diseases of liver or spleen and also due to radiation and chemotherapy.

A low white blood cell count could be due to many reasons as mentioned in the above paragraph.
