Commonly known as Leukocytes or white cells or white corpuscle, the white blood cells are a group of several cell types that occur in bloodstream and are essential for proper functioning of the immune system. Some of these white blood cells act as scavengers by engulfing foreign particles and destroying. Others produce antibodies or destroy dead cells. These blood cells are normally produced in the bone marrow.

A low white blood cell count could be due to many reasons as mentioned in the above paragraph.
