Blood Cells : White Blood Cell Disease
White Blood Cells are extremely crucial in the proper functioning of the immune system of the body. It is imperative that the WBC count in the human body remains stable and at the prescribed level. If there is any imbalance in the WBC count it can have adverse consequences.
Diseases Caused by WBCs
When there is an imbalance or malfunctioning of the WBCs in the human body, the immediate or the most likely effect is that of cancer. If the WBC count is drastically low or high, tumors are born in a particular part of the body. These tumors can become malignant and can spread to other parts of the body, finally leading to the death of an individual. There are several kinds of cancer like leukemia, leukopenia, leukocytosis and several such kinds. Leukemia is a type of blood cancer. Apart from this, the other diseases caused by unstable WBCs include neutropenia. In this disease, a type of WBC called neutrophilis is reduced drastically. This neutropenia is generally observed among children.
Low Red Blood Cell CountThe red blood cells are the most common type of cells. They are also called as RBC’s or enthrocytes. They are the ..... In neutropenia, the immune system of the children is severely affected and they become prone to all kinds of bacterial and viral infections. There are three main kinds of neutropenia, namely, congenital neutropenia, cyclic neutropenia and chronic benign neutropenia. In this disease due to very low WBC count and subsequent low resistance power, children suffer from infections in the lungs, mouth, throat, sinuses and skin. Children also suffer from mouth ulcers, gum infections, ear infections, teeth disorders and infections related to urinary tract.
When the WBC count decreases, the most common form of cancer observed is the leukopenia. This too involves the loss of strength of the immune system of the body. On the contrary, when the WBC counts shoots to a very high level a cancer called leukocytosis is observed. This leads to the individual becoming highly prone to infections like bacterial, viral, fungal and parasitical infections. Also, when there is an unprecedented growth of WBCs, it leads to cancers like leukemia and lymphoma. This form of cancer affects the bone marrow of the individual and also includes unstipulated multiplication of WBCs. Lymphoma is found in the lymphocytes or histiocytes and can be found circulating in the lymphatic system.
These are some of the diseases which are caused due to an imbalance in the WBC count. It may be observed that all these diseases have serious or fatal effects. Thus it is imperative to keep a check on the WBC count in the body on a regular basis.
