Skipping – Healthy SkipAs the life of people becomes increasingly sedentary, it is costing their own health. With the use of advanced technology, the life of people has ..... Calcium is a major mineral essential for healthy bones and teeth. There are several minerals known to be essential to the human body and which must be obtained from food. The major minerals are needed in the greatest quantities or are present in large amounts in the body. The three main functions of minerals are as constituents of the skeleton, as soluble salts which help control the composition of the body fluids and as essential adjuncts to the action of many enzymes and other proteins. It helps to reduce the risk of high cholesterol too. Protein & Calcium A high protein diet, especially derived from animal foods, causes calcium loss in the body. The higher sulphur and calcium ratio of meat increases calcium excretion and a diet rich in meat can cause bone demineralization. The amounts of calcium excreted in the urine of 15 subjects showed that the animal-protein diet caused greater loss of bone calcium in the urine than the all-vegetable protein diet. These findings suggest that diets providing vegetable rather than animal protein may actually protect against cholesterol. Calcium Absorption After age 40, women need to increase their calcium intake. As estrogen levels decrease, and one loses bone strength and need calcium to help prevent bone loss and cholesterol. Increase calcium intake to 1,200 mg daily to reduce the risk of cholesterol. If one takes calcium supplements, be sure it also has Vitamin D to help the body absorb calcium. Take the supplement in the evenings for the best results. Higher the calcium lowers the cholesterol Calcium is the most abundant, essential mineral in the human body. Of the two to three pounds of calcium contained in the average body and 99% is located in the bones and teeth. Calcium is needed to form bones and teeth and is also required for blood clotting, transmission of signals in nerve cells, muscle contraction and checks cholesterol too. The importance of calcium for preventing osteoporosis is probably its most well known role. Although calcium plays at least some minor role in lowering blood pressure, the mechanisms involved appear complex and somewhat unclear too. Including calcium in regular diet can also reduce the risk of cholesterol.
