A person with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) feels completely worn-out and overtired. This extreme tiredness makes it hard to do the daily tasks. Sleep or rest does not make the tiredness go away. It can be made worse by moving, exercising or even thinking. CFS can happen over time or come on suddenly. People who get CFS over time get more and more tired over days after days. People who get CFS suddenly feel fine one day and then feel extremely tired the next. A person with CFS may have muscle pain, trouble focusing, or insomnia that means not being able to sleep. The extreme tiredness may come and go. In some cases the extreme tiredness never goes away.

What are the Symptoms of CFS? The signs or symptoms of CFS can recur again and again to the person. At first the feeling is like having a flu but later an extreme tiredness and weakness can add to it as well. CFS symptoms include forgetting things or having a hard time focusing, feeling tired even after sleeping for long time, muscle pain or aches, pain or aches in joints without swelling or redness, feeling discomfort for more than 24 hours after being active, headaches of a new type, pattern or strength, tender lymph nodes in the neck or under the arm and last but not least is sore throat. Many people with CFS report other symptoms too ranging from a constant cough to feelings of depression. If these symptoms occur, one must consult a doctor.

Few more Criteria for CFS : In ordinary infections, symptoms go away after a few days but in CFS fatigue and other symptoms recur for months to years. Many patients experience symptoms as recurring bouts of flu-like illness, with each attack lasting from hours to weeks. Other symptoms reported with CFS include intolerance to alcohol, irritable bowel syndrome, dry eyes and mouth, impaired circulation in the hands and feet, visual disturbances and painful menstrual periods in women. Even mild exercise often makes the symptoms, especially fatigue much worse. The fatigue is not the result of excessive work or exercise.
