The first care given to casualties before actual treatment by medical personnel can be made available is termed as first aid. Some of the basic activities operated during providing first aid for military purposes are opening the airway and restore breathing, stop the bleeding, Dress and bandage the wounds to prevent infection and Prevent shock. Stopping the bleeding is also one of the important steps that should be taken. It is done by applying a field dressing and manual pressure then elevating the injured limb and again applying a pressure and a tourniquet. The Contents of a military first aid kit should be: First Aid Guide, Cohesive Gauze, Sterile Gauze Pads, Butterfly closures, Fabric Bandages, Povidine - Iodine Prep Pads, Antiseptic Towlettes, Needle, Moleskin, Mini Strips, Combine Dressing, Triangular Bandage and Roll Tape. The first aid guide is the most important content in any given first aid kit. It provides information about various accidents, situations and procedure of how to use the kit. It should cover a broad range of topics in precise in easy-to-understand language. The Army points out, most of the time soldiers have to rely on their own skills and knowledge to survive as Medical personnel are not always available in the field. The First Aid Manual for Soldiers addresses the skills and knowledge necessary for many life-threatening situations along with emphasis on treating oneself and aiding others. The manual also emphasizes prompt and effective action in sustaining life and preventing or minimizing further suffering.
