Bird Flu Virus : Bird Flu In Humans

Bird Flu
A bird flu which is also referred to as avian flu may be simply described as any sort of influenza caused by viruses that are adapted to birds. One of the most common .....
Type A influenza viruses do have many different subtypes. These subtypes are different from each other because of change in certain proteins on the surface of the influenza A virus. There are 16 known HA subtypes and 9 known NA subtypes of influenza A viruses. Possibility of combinations of HA and NA protein is very high. All the known subtypes of influenza A viruses can infect birds. Generally “avian influenza virus” refers to influenza A viruses which are found mainly in birds, but infections with these viruses can occur in humans also. The risk from avian influenza is generally very low to most of human being. This is because the viruses do not usually infect humans. However since 1997 many confirmed cases have been found of human infection from several subtypes of avian influenza infection. In most of the cases of avian influenza infections in humans have resulted from contact with infected poultry.

H5N1 virus has caused the largest number of detected cases of several diseases and death in humans. In the last outbreaks in Asia and Europe, more than half of infected people with the virus had died. Most of the victims were healthy children and young adults. The spread of H5N1 virus from person to person has been limited. But all influenza viruses have the ability to change themselves, so most of the scientists are concerned that one day the H5n1 virus will be able to infect humans and spread easily from one person to another. The humans don’t have immune protection against these viruses because these viruses do not commonly infect humans. Experts from all over the world have been watching the H5N1 situation in Asia and Europe very closely and are preparing for the possibility that the virus may begin to spread more easily and widely from person to person.

Bird Flu Deaths
China has reported only three confirmed cases of H5N1 in people of which a boy in Hunan province who recovered, and two women in Anhui province who died, the .....
The H5N1 virus has caused human illness and death in Asia. The virus is resistant to Amantadine and Rimantadine, two antiviral medications commonly used for influenza. So, doctors have to face a lot of problems during the treatment of a patient. There are two other antiviral medications named Oseltamavir and Zanamavir. These two would most likely work to treat influenza caused by H5N1 virus. The additional studies still need to be done to demonstrate their efficiency.
