There are many subtypes of this virus. The H5N1 virus is most common bird flu virus in Asia. Avian flu virus is a dangerous disease and it has caused nearly 80 lives in Asia. It has also severely affected the poultry business around the world. Bird flu virus is not a natural human virus but it is transmitted through the birds in humans. The symptoms of bird flu are not very different from normal influenza symptoms. The treatment of any disease depends upon its symptoms. Symptoms of the bird flu depend on the type of bird flu virus as there are many subtypes of bird flu. Normal symptoms of bird flu are fever, cough, sore throat, and muscle aches. Bird flu can also cause some problems to respiratory symptoms. Bird flu is a deadly disease. These symptoms can soon be worsened and threat the life of the patient. Even if these symptoms are present the chances that a person is affected from bird flu are very low.
Bird flu disease is very rare especially in the western country. There is no effective treatment for the bird flu. There are also no vaccines developed until now to prevent the bird flu virus. A lot of research has been done to make an effective vaccine and the vaccine is also not far away. Traditionally a limited number of anti-viral drugs and medications are used against bird flu. Antiviral drugs that are used against the bird flu are the same that are used against the normal influenza as there are no medicines available to fight against the bird flu. The primary treatment is done only with these medicines.
There are two types of medicines to fight against the bird flu. The drugs are named Amantadines and Neuraminidase inhibitors, but the H5N1 virus that has caused human sickness and death in Asia is resistant to Amantadine and Rimantadine. Other drugs such as Relenza (Zanamivir) and “Tamiflu” (Oseltamivir) seems to be more effective on the bird flu virus in the recent studies. In the recent outbreaks in Asia these drugs were proved useful.
