Cellulitis basically is a severe bacterial infection of the skin. It appears as a swollen red portion of skin that feels hot and tender, and it might expand rapidly. The infection affects the skin of the face or any of the lower legs. It can though affect any part of the body. It is one of the superficial infections that affect the surface of the skin. Cellulitis also affects the tissues underlying the skin and can spread to the lymph nodes and the bloodstream. If the infection is left untreated then the bacteria might spread very speedily. It may also turn into a life threatening condition.
Cellulitis generally is an inflammation of the connective tissue that is lying under the skin. It is caused due to normal skin flora or we can say that it also occurs by exogenous bacteria. It is often caused where the skin has been broken previously, in other words where there is cracks in the skin, cuts, burns, insect bites, surgical wounds, or sites of intravenous catheter insertion. The main point of the whole theory is that the treatment is done only with the help of appropriate antibiotics. It is totally unrelated to cellulite, a cosmetic condition featuring dimpling of the skin. Cellulitis may be also be caused by many a different bacteria’s the most common are those of the Streptococcus species.

The areas of the skin that become swollen in this infection with fluid are especially vulnerable. However, cellulitis can also take place in skin that is not overtly injured. Cellulitis begins as a small inflamed area of pain, swelling, warmth, and redness, on the patient’s skin. As the red color area begins to spread, the patient start feeling sick and develop fever.
