Strep infections are caused by group a streptococcus bacterium, which is also responsible for a variety of health problems. Infection caused by streptococcus bacterium is called strep infection. Strep infections can range from a mild skin infection (cellulitis) or sore throat to severe, life threatening conditions. Strep infection can lead to toxic shock syndrome and necrotizing fasciitis. Fasciitis is also skin disease commonly known as flesh eating disease. Besides skin and throat infection, strep bacterium can also cause infections in tissues at specific body sites, including lungs, bones, spinal cord, and abdomen. Most of the skin and throat infections are caused by the group A strep bacterium. According to an estimate by the health experts about 10 million mild skin and throat infection occur because of this bacterium.
Cellulitis usually begins with a minor incident, such as a bruise. Strep cellulitis can also begin at the site of a burn, surgical cut, or wound, and usually affect your arm or leg. The strep cellulitis can be transmitted from one person to another person very easily. It can be transmitted even if you are not showing any symptoms. In the beginning the symptoms of cellulitis may include fever, chills and swollen glands or lymph nodes. In addition to that skin may be painful, red, and tender. After some time the skin may blister and then scab over. Symptoms of the skin cellulitis also depend upon the body part in which the cellulitis has occurred. In the perianal cellulitis the person may experience itching and painful bowel movements.

Health care provider may take a sample or culture from your skin to identify the type of bacterium causing infection. Bacteria can also be recovered from the blood of the infected person. If the infection is not very serious, then the antibiotics are given for the treatment. The antibiotics are given to fight against the bacteria of strep cellulitis. If the condition of the infected person is serious, then surgical treatments can also be given to wash the bacteria out of the body.
