Cellulitis : What Causes Celluluitis

Cellulitis Pathophysiology
Cellulitis generally follows a break in the skin, such as a fissure, cut, laceration, insect bite, or puncture .....
The staphylococcus bacterium is found to be the most common causes of cellulitis. The other one that follows the list is the streptococcus. This one is believed to be the main cause of a rather superficial cellulitis that called as the erysipelas which can be characterized by the spreading hotness and turning of the affected area into bright red circumscribed patch on the skin along with a sharp border. The streptococcus bacterium, which is also known by the name of flesh eating bacteria, can cause severe destruction of the tissues almost as fast as an experienced surgeon can cut it out. A number of other types of bacteria can also be the possible reason behind cellulitis. Cases of cellulitis in children under the age group of six have been reported to be caused by the Hemophilus influanzae bacteria. This type of cellulitis occurs mainly in the upper parts of the body such as the arms, face, neck and upper torso. The pastuerella multocida bacterium is another cause of cellulitis that is caused by a dog bite or a cat bite or scratches. The streptococcus is another cellulitis causing bacteria that occurs after an injury from a salt water fish or injury while handling pigs and poultry in the farm.

Cellulitis is an inflammation of the connective tissues of the human body that lies beneath the epidermal layer of the skin mainly by bacterial infection. Cellulitis carries symptoms that include reddening of the skin, swelling, warmth, tenderness and pain in the affected regions. It is found that cellulitis mostly occurs in those parts of the body that exposed like the legs, arms and face. Some times the symptoms may also be accompanied by fever, chills and headaches. In severe case of cellulitis, the infection is found to spread very rapidly and formation of red streaks may be visible in the patches of the skin.

The treatment of cellulitis mainly focuses on the classification of the infection and the bacteria that causes it. After this a suitable supply of antibiotics mainly derivatives of penicillin is applied. Some times corticosteroids are also used in this regard depending upon the type of cellulitis and the causative bacteria. It is advised that the patient should elevate his or her affected portion above the level of the heart which proves very effective in the reduction of the swelling.
