Erectile dysfunction is a common sexual disorder in men where the penis loses the ability to get or maintain an erection. Erectile dysfunction can be due to a variety of causes such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, etc. Every year millions of new cases of erectile dysfunction are diagnosed. Hence it is very necessary to cure erectile dysfunction as soon as possible. The first step in the cure of erectile dysfunction is finding out the cause. The most popular cure for erectile dysfunction is oral medications. Till date only three medications by the name of Viagra, Levitra and Cialis have been approved by the FDA. These medications have to be taken orally as prescribed by the doctor. However there are chances of side effects when these medications are taken orally. Medicines can also be injected if the case is serious. However natural herbal supplements are also available today in the market which are quite effective and there are no side effects.
There is also the vacuum pump for curing erectile dysfunction. The vacuum pump helps to draw the blood to the penis as a result of which the penis becomes firm and erect. The device consists of three parts viz: the cylinder that is placed over the penis, a pump that draws out air from the cylinder and creates a vacuum and an elastic band that is placed on the base of the penis. This band helps to keep the erect penis in the same position as long as the sexual act is taking place. There is also the solution of penile implants. In the case of penile implants for erectile dysfunction, fluid is pumped from the holding chamber into the hallow cylinders placed within the two chambers of the penis. The patient can inflate and deflate the cylinders as he desires. Surgery is another option. In the case of surgery blood is restored to the penile area through the blood vessels. The penile implants can be surgically embedded in the scrotum. However surgeries have not found much favor amongst the patients due to the risks involved with them. Many times patients suffer from infections after surgery.
