Mens Health : Drugs For Erectile Dysfunction
One of the most common and popular treatments for erectile dysfunction are drugs. Oral medications have been in use since a long time. Until today, the FDA has approved three drugs viz: Viagra, Levitra and Cialis. All these drugs help to draw blood into the penis during the sexual act and help the penis to maintain the erection as long as the sexual act lasts. All these three drugs for erectile dysfunction works on a similar mechanism. Their function is to draw blood into the penis, so that when the man is sexually stimulated, he can get and maintain an erection. However there are differences in how long it will take for the drug to take effect and for how long the effect will last.
Levitra normally has a more lasting effect than Viagra. This is because if you take Viagra, the effect lasts for an average 4 hours while if you take Levitra, the effect will last on an average of 5 hours. Cialis is more effective than any of the medicines. This is because the effects of Cialis can be seen in 15 minutes after the medicine is taken and the effect can last for almost 3 days. It is better to let the doctor decide which medicine will be appropriate for you. The doctor will prescribe a certain medicine only after he does a complete diagnosis of the patient. The conditions of all patients differ.
Also when you go to the doctor you should provide him some important information before he prescribes any drug to you. You should tell him if you are allergic to any drugs like Viagra. You should also inform the doctor about any allergies that you are currently experiencing as well as all the prescription and non prescription medicines that you are taking. Inform the doctor if you are taking alpha blockers to bring your blood pressure under control.
Always take the drugs exactly as prescribed by the doctor. Also read the instructions carefully on the label of the box of drugs. Do not take more or less than what is prescribed. However in case you have suffered from a stroke or a heart attack in the last six months then do let your doctor know. Your doctor may not allow you to take the medications in this case. The side effects of these drugs include nausea, vomiting, headache and back pain.
