Mens Health : Fixing Erectile Dysfunction
Erectile dysfunction is a common disorder happening in men all around the world. Every year there are more than a million new cases of erectile dysfunction. The causes of erectile dysfunction can be physiological as well as psychological. In the case of physiological causes, erection of the penis is not achieved at all while in the case of psychological causes the erection fails but not every time. The first step in fixing an erectile dysfunction is finding out the cause. This is because only when a cause is detected, can a particular type of treatment be started. First of all tests are conducted to rule out disorders such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes and kidney failure. This is because 70% of the times, these are the causes of erectile dysfunction.
Once the cause is detected, the treatments to fix the erectile dysfunction have to be started immediately. Oral medications are the most common treatment for erectile dysfunction. Medications like Viagra, Levitra and Cialis are normally given to the patient. Only these three drugs to treat erectile dysfunction have been approved by the FDA till now. Also medications can be injected in the body to speed up the recovery process.
One can also use vacuum devices for erectile dysfunction. These devices help to create a vacuum around the penis as a result of which blood is drawn in the penis which makes it form and erect. The vacuum device consist of three parts viz: a plastic cylinder that is to be placed on the penis, a pump that draws air out of the cylinder and an elastic band that is placed on the base of the penis to maintain the erection. This band can be kept on the penis as long as you do intercourse.
There is also the possibility of penile implants to fix erectile dysfunction. In this case the implants are surgically embedded into the scrotum as an alternative to drug therapy. The fluid is pumped from the holding chamber into the hallow cylinders placed within the two chambers of the penis. The patient can control the inflation and deflation of the device. A vascular surgery has to be performed sometimes on the patient if the case is too serious. Surgery is generally performed to restore the flow of blood to the penile area. However many people do not prefer surgery due to the risks associated with it like infections, etc.
