First, we must remember to lead by example. We cannot properly educate our children in the Christian way if we do not follow it ourselves. We must provide a strong example of virtue for our children. Make it clear to your children that you are their soft place to land. When they have questions about things that make you feel uncomfortable, remember that they are probably feeling the same way you are. They are looking at you for answers to things that they have seen or heard at school or television. Meet these questions, showing no fear, and with complete honesty. Explain that you are there to answers such questions and how some things are not part of God's path or what your believe God intended. Children must be aware of outside influences and how to face them head on. How can we expect our children to shun temptation if we ourselves do not show them how? Answer each question so that they will not be afraid to ask again. This fosters a relationship that both provides you with a way to see into your childs world and makes the christian parenting world a lot easier and keeps them from finding answers in less desirable locations.
We can not completely hide our children from the dangers of the outside world. We can home school them, and drown them in Church and Bible studies, but in the end, those are just supplements. We need to foster strength and faith in our children so when faced with a tough decision they can make the right choice. In the end, we must remember that they leave us to attend college, to start a family, and to live in the world. We must start with an independent foundation of strong values and virtues. We must show them caring and respect so that they know how to give it to others and to themselves as Gods children. We must be examples of Faith so that our children can be examples of us so that they may show the world the glory of walking in the path of God.
