Acne Treatment Coverup
It is important that an individual's self esteem is not subjected to any harm if that individual is to face the world .....
Approximately 75 percent of teenagers suffer from outbreaks of acne at varying levels of severity, however, once the hormonal changes accompanying puberty have balanced out, the acne episodes tend to lessen and eventually disappear entirely. When the acne increases, or reappears after the mid-twenties, the condition is known as adult acne, and is probably the result of a different set of circumstances and causes.

The cause of acne, whether in youngsters or adults, is still unknown. While it is apparent that oil which normally is secreted from the sebaceous gland at the base of the hair follicle to the skin's surface becomes blocked when the sebum no longer is able to move to the surface; it is not understood why the pore collapses upon itself in some follicles and not in others. Suffice it to say that the growth of bacteria, causing pain, pressure, inflammation, and of course blackheads and whiteheads is just as embarrassing to the adult sufferer as it is to the adolescent.

Although we do not know what causes acne, we can still take steps to prevent or reduce the severity of its symptoms by following a few simple steps and treatments.

1. Cleansing - it is important not only to cleanse the skin, but at the same time to avoid anything which will tend to irritate it further. Use a gentle over-the-counter cleaning product specially made for the face. Do not use bath soap and do not scrub at the face with a washcloth or with any rough surface. Your skin is already irritated and anything which is rough or scratchy just creates more irritation.
2. Medicating - Many prescription and over-the-counter remedies have been studied and used. Some are quite effective in treating adult acne, but may have disturbing side-effects. Use a liberal amount of benzoyl peroxide and gently apply to the entire face morning and evening. You will likely need to start with a lesser amount, and build up the dosage as the skin becomes more tolerant. It is not necessary to wash the benzoyl peroxide off, but allow five to ten minutes for it to be absorbed into the skin. then
3. Moisturize - Cetaphil lotion or jojoba oil mixed with a light face moisturizing product works well when gently worked into the skin following the treatment with benzoyl peroxide. The moisturizing step is to help control the flakiness caused by the medicating treatment step.
