PLEVA is also known as Pityriasis Lichenoides et Varioliformis Acuta or the Mucha-Habermann disease. This is characterized by formation of many small itchy red spots which may develop into blisters or open sores. These will heal on their own in some weeks and recur again also, possibly.

Pityriasis lichenoides is the name given to an uncommon rash of unknown cause. Its mild form is known as "pityriasis lichenoides chronica (PLC)". The more severe form is known as "pityriasis lichenoides et varioliformis acuta (PLEVA)" (Mucha-Haberman disease).

PLEVA can be termed as a hypersensitive reaction to a some sort of a microorganism. Any specific bacteria or virus has not been named as yet though. PLEVA may cause mouth ulcers. The lesions generally occur on the trunk, thighs and the inner aspect of the upper arms. PLEVA rarely affects the face or scalp, but it can arise at any other site. It may last for months or even several years, with crops of new lesions appearing every few weeks.
