Stop Smoking : Cigarette Smoke
Inhaling and exhaling of fumes of burning tobacco in cigars and cigarettes and pipes is smoking. Some people draw the smoke into their lungs but few don’t. Probably the indigenous people of the Western Hemisphere first practiced it. It was originally used in religious rituals and in some medicinal purposes. Smoking and the use of tobacco became a wide spread practice by the late 1500s. By the end of 19th century production of cigarettes had begun and smoking of cigarettes became very common instance. Smoking is very harmful to health because tobacco smoke contains nicotine, which is a poisonous alkaloid. It also contains other harmful substances such as carbon monoxide, acrolein, ammonia, prussic acid and a number of aldehydes as well as tars.
The smoke of Tobacco contains over 4,000 chemicals, the vast majority of which are already present either naturally in the tobacco and transferred into the smoke, or are produced when the tobacco is burnt. Acetone, ammonia, benzene, cadmium, carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, hydrogen cyanide, lead, nicotine, tar, shellac are few major and most dangerous ingredients of smoke produced by tobacco. Nicotine is the responsible chemical found in tobacco smoke, which makes the cigarette as addictive as they are. A lot of studies say that nicotine is as addictive as cocaine and heroine. When a person take a drag on cigarette the nicotine is absorbed in the blood and it reaches the brain in next 7 seconds and gives hit to the person. Nicotine not only provides hit to our brain but also increase heart rate, blood pressure, and production of hormones, affects metabolism of human body, and construction of blood vessels. In larger nicotine is very poisonous. 60 mg of pure nicotine placed on a persons tongue can kill him in seconds.
