You should tell your family, friends, and co-workers that you are going to quit and want their support. Even ask them not to smoke around you or leave cigarettes out where you can see them. You have to learn new skills and behaviors try to distract yourself from urges to smoke. Talk to someone, go for a walk, or get busy with a task.

Even coronary heart disease risk is cut by half 1 year after quitting and is nearly the same as someone who never smoked 15 years after quitting. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease risk of death is reduced after you quit. Lung cancer, cervical cancer, bladder cancer and ulcer risk drops by as much as half 10 years after quitting. When a pregnant woman quits smoking, the risk of low birth weight baby drops to normal.
