Contrary to what some would have you believe, it does make a difference how you quit smoking. There are many methods, and the most successful ones seem to be a combination of one or more techniques.

It is finding a person or support group who will help to strengthen your resolve not to resume puffing when the craving is at its worst. This person also needs to be able to provide positive encouragement to you.
Next, consider whether you want to quit 'cold turkey or whether you need assistance from nicotine patches, gums or inhalers. Some smokers find that just cutting down on the number of smokes gradually over a course of 2-3 weeks allows them to eventually quit with somewhat fewer cravings experienced. The longer time frame has the advantage of allowing you to gradually replace the cigarette smoking habit with other, more beneficial new habits.
If your budget will allow the extravagance, you might consider treating yourself to a health center mini-vacation during which you can participate in a stop smoking plan. Many of these resort-like centers are spread throughout the United States; some have water and steam treatment regimes which help to remove the poisonous toxins from your body tissues.
No matter which method you choose to quit smoking, be assured that you are giving yourself a great gift in health, longevity and quality of life.
