A stress test is a test that is performed by your doctor to diagnose if you are suffering form over stress or not. Excess stress due to hectic lifestyle and long working hours can prove to be a major health hazard for your mind as well as your body. A stress test is normally conducted to check how your heart responds to the various demands of physical activities. This is because the symptoms of stress can first be seen in the heart as there is pressure on the heart to beat when the body undergoes stress. There are about several types of major stress tests conducted by doctors depending on the condition of the patient. We will take a look at each of them in the next few paragraphs.

The first type of stress test is known as the Exercise Electrocardiogram test, also known by the name of ECG in short. In this test the patient will have to walk on a treadmill and the doctor will take readings of the heart rhythm as well as how your body is reacting to the exercise. ECG is the most common stress test conducted on patients. The next type of stress test is the exercise echocardiogram test in which you will have to lie down first and the echocardiogram will record your heart beats. After a while you will have to walk on the treadmill and again your heart beats and rhythm will be monitored. The cardiologist will then compare the results of both the resting and the running echocardiogram.

The next stress test is Dobutamine Stress Echocardiogram in which case you will be administered the drug Dobutamine. The rest of the procedure is the same as that of echocardiogram. However you will not be told to run on the treadmill. The results will be monitored after injecting Dobutamine and then taking your reading while you are at rest. The fourth stress test is Myoview Stress Test. In this case the doctor will make use of the radioactive tracer which will monitor your heart beast as well as the blood flow to your heart while you are resting or running. You will have electrodes attached to your body that will make results more accurate. The fifth test is Persantine Myoview Stress Test. This type of stress is recommended by doctors when patient can't run on the treadmill. The patient is injected with Persantine medication that mimics the effects of exercise on the heart.
