Vitamin is a chemical substance, which is derived from another compound called steroid. The name of the parent compound for steroid is called cholesterol. Vitamin is an organic substance or a hormone, which is a very essential nutrient for the body. There are different vitamins present in the body, which is obtained, from different forms of diet. All the vitamins found in the body are very useful for different metabolic activities as all of them are entrusted upon with special functions. Among these vitamins d is very important as the metabolism of the body is concerned. Vitamin d, which is also known as calciferol, is a fat-soluble vitamin. It can be obtained from food as well as from ultra-violet rays, which is also very rich in vitamin d. The function involves maintaining the blood level of calcium and phosphorous. It is mostly associated with keeping the bones healthy by maintaining the hormonal balance.

Cortisol is a steroid hormone and it produced by the adrenal cortex. The main function of cortisol is to restore the original condition of the body after stressful work. It also increases the blood sugar level of the body and thus it can be said that it acts as an antagonist to insulin. Exposing to cortisol for long may damage the memory thought short-term exposure to cortisol may enhance memory to a little extent. Excessive secretion of cortisol may lead to muscle wastage and the immune system may also get suppressed. So it is essential to have regular checkup regarding the amount cortisol in blood. This can help to prevent the body from lots of diseases.

Cortisol is a steroid hormone and it is mainly secreted during stressful conditions. Lots of research has been carried out and it is found that vitamin d and cortisol has got same chemical structure. After that again experiments were carried out to find out the chemical effects of both vitamin d and cortisol when they are taken together. So vitamin d diet and cortisone is administered in the body of the rat and it is found that that both vitamin d and cortisone show antagonistic effect. Research was also carried out to find out the effect of glucocorticoids on the bone cells containing calcium, which is deposited due to vitamin d. It is found that glucocorticoid has very little effect on the bone cells.
