Generally speaking, medical experts divide a pregnancy term into three pregnancy stages, aptly named the first, second and third trimesters. Each trimester lasts for a trio of months, more or less.

(Of course, there are exceptions if the child has a serious disease or illness or if the mother has such a disease or illness that is the cause of the premature birth. Additionally, there are significant variations in survival rates from one country to the next depending on the technology that actually is available in a given nation.)
